All applications should be returned to the Hughesville High School guidance office by May 1st preceding graduation.

The Christopher T. Secules Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of Christopher Secules, a member of the Hughesville High School Class of 1998, who passed away in August 2012 as a result of liver failure while waiting for a liver transplant. Chris had a very special ability that enabled him to bring a smile to anyone’s face while always having one on his own. He often took the time to show compassion and understanding to people he knew, and maintained a positive attitude no matter what the circumstances. Chris lived each day to the fullest and believed the way to do that was simply to do his best, whatever he did.

Chris’s interests were not limited to concert or theatrical stage in high school, the community, and college, venues where his talent shone brightly. He was also deeply involved in Boy Scouts and his church, contributing, among many other ways as troop bugler and in the church’s music program. For nearly as long as he was a singer – since infancy – Chris was intrigued with understanding how things worked. This culminated in his engineering education and career writing computer software.

An application must be submitted for this scholarship. The selection committee will consist of two members of the music department staff, the high school principal, the guidance counselor, and a member or members of the Secules family, or their designee. The announcement of the student receiving this scholarship award will be made at graduation, and the payment will be made out to the recipient and the institution of higher learning.
