Kenneth D. Poust graduated as an honor student from Hughesville High School in 1945. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from PHL College of Pharmacy, served in WWII and then returned home to operate his family pharmacy, Poust Pharmacy in Hughesville. He was very active in many of Hughesville’s civic organization. One of his most notable shared words of wisdom included “You are born with two eyes and two ears, use them both before you open your mouth”.
It was his desire to give back to his community in the form of a scholarship. Applicant should list work, health related job experience, sports or important life experiences for consideration and their life goals.
As a pharmacist, Kenny always appreciated the hard work and dedication of his assistants. He had hoped for a program to train people/students for the job.
An amount of $2000.00 will be awarded annually to a graduating senior, of Hughesville High School who is continuing their education in a 2 or 4 year institution, in a health related field. If at any time a certified pharmacy assistant program is offered, this will get first priority. Priority will also be given to any student attending a two-year program. Funds will be paid in January of the selected applicant’s freshman year.
The selection committee will consist of one or two of Mr. Poust’s personal friends, a high school science teacher, guidance counselor, career counselor and one ELSD administrator.
